About Us
Ride With Pride is a non-profit organization serving the Augusta County area since 1989.

Our Mission is to serve those in Greater Augusta County with physical, emotional, and developmental special needs through a wide range of therapeutic equine activities.

Ride With Pride is an operating center for the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA). NARHA supports therapeutic riding programs across the country (and internationally) with insurance, technical assistance, and training in safety and teaching techniques. There are over 700 operating centers in North America alone.

Debbie Winters & Student

Debbie Winters, Program Director & Instructor
           
An instructor of therapeutic riding since 1983, Debbie is a registered certified NARHA instructor, certified by the Cheff Center for the Handicapped in Augusta, Michigan.  She obtained her certification as a Special Olympics Equestrian Coach in 1986. She holds a Bachelors degree in sociology, with a minor in psychology as well as an Associates Degree in equine science with a certificate in horsemanship. She was a founder, Executive Director, and Head Instructor at Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding Center in Buffalo, New York from 1983-1996 before joining Ride With Pride as Program Director and instructor in 1998. She has over 25 years experience in the human service field and is has been a Family Consultant for People Places since 1998. In 2004 Debbie began working as Ride With Pride’s full-time director, coordinating services with People Places’ therapeutic foster care program as well as other community agencies.

Sue Woundy, Instructor

Sue has 27 years experience with therapeutic riding programs and over 40 years of experience in teaching riding, having been owner and instructor in her own facilities, Welsh Run Farm in both Connecticut and Virginia for many years.  She began her career in therapeutic riding as a volunteer with the Pegasus riding program in Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York in 1978 and progressed to become a registered NAHRA instructor in 1995 and was principle instructor for Ride With Pride from 1989 to 1998 when she retired.  She returned to RWP in the fall of 2004 as an instructor.

2012 BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Incorporated on December 28, 1989, Ride With Pride is governed by a board of directors that meets monthly. Board members serve two and three year terms. We welcome anyone from the community that is interested in sitting on the board.
